Richard had an extremely difficult time maintaining a job. In fact, due to his sluggishness and lack of drive, he was out of work far more often than he was in a state of employment. And when he did land a job, he had an extremely difficult time getting to work when his shift started, he commonly received less than optimal performance assessments, and he called off sick so consistently that he almost always got fired four or five weeks after he started working.
Not unexpectedly, one of the consequences of Richard's less than passing employment record was the fact that he was virtually without a dime almost on an everyday basis. Despite Richard's unacceptable work history and financial laxity, on the other hand, in some way he made it his business to drink in an irresponsible and abusive manner on an everyday basis.
So it came as no big shock when Richard got arrested for a second DUI. When he went to court, the judge stated to Richard that his alcohol-related actions was unacceptable and, as a consequence, he was going to sentence Richard to spend twelve months incarcerated in jail.
During his time behind bars, Richard was required to learn more about alcohol facts such as alcohol related consequence and alcohol deaths, about the harmful effects of hazardous and abusive drinking, and he was expected to get alcohol treatment. The judge highlighted the fact that unless Richard receives professional alcohol rehab and learns how to live a life of abstinence, he will most probably be spending more than a short amount of time in the county jail.
Richard articulated that he understood what the judge was declaring but he still thought that placement in the county jail was not the correct judgment. The magistrate saw things from an entirely different orientation and declared that it was his duty to keep alcohol abusers off the streets who drink and drive and who receive multiple DUIs. To authenticate this statement, the magistrate outlined some revered, thoroughly researched alcoholism and alcohol abuse facts and statistics that highlighted some of the harmful outcomes that are correlated with hazardous and abusive drinking such as alcohol related deaths.
Although Richard comprehended that he drank in an excessive manner, he never thought that he was an alcohol addicted individual. So it was quite a shock when Richard began having chronic alcoholism signs and symptoms and alcohol withdrawals roughly five-and-a-half hours after after getting locked up in the city jail.
To manage his alcohol withdrawals in a safe and sound manner, Richard was taken to a rehab center for alcohol detox and then brought back to the local jail. While locked up in the city jail Richard undertook alcohol rehab but because he got this rehab as something that was forced upon him, he did not take ownership of his irresponsible and hazardous drinking.
When his time in the city jail was over, the magistrate forcefully told Richard that he would be under strict scrutiny and would be required to take random blood alcohol tests. After hearing how Richard did not take ownership of his drinking circumstances and how he grudgingly followed the therapy policy and procedures while behind bars, the judge knew that it was essentially a matter of time before he would be seeing Richard once again in court about his careless drinking behavior.
As the judge reflected on Richard's circumstance, he couldn't help but think about how some individuals never use common sense and discover how to live in a productive and adult manner.
