A Monday Evening Out With Classmates At A Local Pub Results In Irresponsible Drinking And Symptoms Of Alcohol Poisoning

When Lois was in high school, she had achieved a reputation as a studious individual who rarely, if ever, "got down" and drank with her classmates. She seemed determined to do well academically so that she would be able to go after a career that she not only benefited from but one that also gave her some security from a financial position.

After Lois completed high school, she applied to and was accepted into an outstanding program in philosophy. Her logic behind this decision was that this subject area would be good preparation for law school and would not be indistinguishable from the preponderance of law school applicants who choose political science as their undergraduate major or minor.

Lois was the type of individual who worked vigorously to finish what she started and then would take a few days off when she could. As it turns out, nonetheless, most of the things she did between school sessions or during her summer vacations were unrelated to drinking. It almost goes without saying that Lois was anything but a party-person. Now that her finals for her second year in law school were finished and feeling proud of the fact that she had done a super job on her tests, nevertheless, she wanted to let her hair down and do something besides school work for a change.

So Lois and several of her pals went to a local club where they had a few shots. As the evening advanced, Lois and her pals continued to drink. As a matter of fact she was having such a fantastic time that she didn't want the night to end.

After drinking around thirty-five minutes when Lois began to talk in a confused manner, slur her speech, and then become unconscious, in spite of this, her pals promptly realized that they needed to call that they needed to call 911, the emergency number, and ask for medical assistance because they believed that Lois was displaying alcohol poisoning symptoms.

Lois was very aware that she came an inch from losing her life from an alcohol overdose and, as a consequence, was grateful to be alive. At the same time, nevertheless, she was somewhat dejected knowing that she had almost died the night before. Her Mother and Father knew how intensely she worked at college and how little she let herself socialize with her buddies. Nonetheless, they also knew that Lois needed to stay away from irresponsible and hazardous drinking.

As a result, they recommended that down the road, whenever a drinking circumstance arises, that she always drink in moderation and responsibly. Lois was in agreement with this and gave her word to her friends and to her parents that she would never ever drink in an excessive and abusive manner. In her own words, "I never pondered the fact that I might become one of the alcohol poisoning statistics in the local town newspaper. I now realize that irresponsible and hazardous drinking is not the best for me. I swear that this will never happen again."

Fortunately, Lois was not only "school smart" but she also had a lot of common sense. That is, she rapidly comprehended that she had made an error in judgment and decided that she would not make the same mistake again. In truth, she now grasped the fact that she had involved herself in "binge drinking" and that even one instance of this kind of excessive and hazardous drinking can result in a fatality.
